Information ServicesOpen-source whenever possible and always designed to promote collaboration on and between campuses, NITLE's information services can help participating institutions achieve mission-critical goals--often by freeing up institutional resources for mission-critical work. Related professional development offerings and peer communities enable information services subscribers to build collaborative networks, learn together, and synchronize their efforts to use technology to promote a shared educational mission. DSpace Services
Institutional repositories (IRs) have become a critical campus asset. NITLE's participating institutions have access to fully managed digital repository services via NITLE's DSpace Services. NITLE DSpace Services provide campuses with a professionally, fully managed campus IR that can be set up and available within a few days. All back-end application and server support is included; campuses do not have to purchase any hardware or train staff for back-end support roles. Participating colleges interested in open-source collaboration and learning management systems can enroll in our managed Moodle services--designed for smaller colleges and universities and the non-profit organizations that serve them--at a level appropriate to their needs. Campuses can use our services to test-drive Moodle, provide integrated support for campus courses, or foster inter-institutional collaboration with off-campus partners. Institutions interested in open-source collaboration and learning management systems also have the option of enrolling in our Sakai managed services. Like Moodle, Sakai is a learner-centered, open-source course management system. Sakai offers faculty and students a rich, user-friendly interface, online help, and a wide variety of interactive tools to support teaching, learning, and collaboration. Sakai also includes the Open Source Portfolio, a set of tools that enables campuses and individuals to assemble and publish online e-portfolios of their work. Participating institutions enrolled in our Multipoint Interactive Videoconferencing (MIV) Services are enabling their faculty and staff members to see, talk to, and work with colleagues and students--both on and off campus--in a web-based environment that includes audio, video, a shared whiteboard, group and private chat, and application-sharing. Our MIV Services offer "seats" in a virtual room--or multiple rooms--reserved for the enrolled institution's use. From their personal desktop or laptop computers, individuals can access MIV to connect with one another across distance to communicate, interact, and collaborate.
